I believe helping young people understand the quirks of their neurodevelopment is a key aspect of helping them gain their potential. Children with special educational needs can often have their self-esteems effected and I believe it is important they understand difficulties in the context of strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, it is important that adults around them at home and school support aspects that are weaknesses, while allowing independence and potential to be achieved using their strengths. For my patients, I aim to be a conduit on this journey.

A London native, I was born to Sri Lankan parents who immigrated to the UK in the 70s. Having attended one of the top schools in the country, the contrast between their village childhood and mine has always fascinated me. As such, I have always tried to give back and think about work to improve the lives of children not so fortunate. I am lucky that my profession allows me to do this in England but further afield, the need is often greater. I have been fortunate to be involved in a number of projects across the globe and am always keen to find newer initiatives to support. I am a trustee of the Butterfly Project Charity and have previously collaborated with Play Action International with the Butabika East London Foundation Trust Link and any further collaborations are welcome.
